Develop solid manipulative and theoretical understanding of the GMAW process. Weld a variety of weld joints on carbon steel in the flat and horizontal positions. Theoretical understanding of the GMAW process will be gained through lecture and discussions. All welding competencies preformed using the GMAW process will be performed using the Short Circuit Mode of Metal Transfer, and will be evaluated using American Welding Society (AWS) Structural Steel Welding Code visual inspection criteria.

Successfully perform flat, horizontal and vertical position welds on a variety of weld joints, including Square, Tee, Lap and Outside Corner in the short circuit mode of transfer.
