Earners are able to articulate and apply Standards 4, 5 and 8 in various education abroad contexts. They are able to anticipate and respond responsibly to crises and conduct issues, and to prepare students to do the same. They are knowledgeable of best practices, and know where to find resources to support their work. They are competent in communicating the importance of these Standards to stakeholders and assessing education abroad operations based on these Standards.

Complete three required assignments to assess the candidate's ability to 1) identify areas of risk in real-world situations and draft and implement policies that are fair, ethical and transparent to appropriately respond and 2) appropriately respond to a student conduct issue abroad and incorporate lessons learned into future student preparation for study abroad (program leader training, student advising, pre-departure orientation, etc.).

Assignments meet established rubrics as determined by two Forum Certified Assessors, professionals in the field with senior level experience and in depth knowledge of the Standards of Good Practice. Participants resubmit assignments to incorporate feedback from the assessors until the assignment meets the competency requirement.
Standards
The Forum on Education Abroad is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission as the Standards Development Organization for Education Abroad. The Forum develops and disseminates comprehensive Standards of Good Practice for the field of education abroad.
