Earners of this designation demonstrate a deep knowledge of the core principles of instructional design, training delivery, and improving human performance practices, as defined by the ATD Competency Model. CPLP recipients have a working knowledge of advanced talent development topics, including change management, knowledge management, integrated talent management and managing learning programs.

Document at least five years’ full-time professional experience in the talent development field or related fields/disciplines.
Pass two comprehensive, standardized exams. The CPLP Knowledge Exam is a three-hour exam composed of 150 multiple-choice questions, covering the ten Areas of Expertise (AOEs) of the ATD Competency Model. Those who pass the Knowledge Exam take a Skills Application Exam (SAE), assessing candidate ability to apply knowledge and skills in a case study format.
Adhere to a Code of Ethics and re-certify every three (3) years through at least 60 points of continuing professional development.
