Earning Criteria

'Addressing Cognition in the Hospital' This course equips OTPs with the knowledge to address cognition/functional cognition throughout the entirety of the OT process within acute care. Guidance regarding the distinct role of OT in addition to evidence supported information and resources to support intervention and assessment are provided. Learners will also be introduced to an evaluation tool selection approach to improve consistency of tool selection within the acute care setting.
Occupational Therapy for Orthopedic Recovery in Acute Care. This course is designed to provide an overview of diagnoses and treatment considerations for common orthopedic conditions encountered by OTPs in the acute care setting. The course begins with an exploration of the important skills that practitioners brings to the multidisciplinary team when facilitating the return of patients to their full self-care potential.
'OT Services for Cardiac Conditions and Procedures' This course provides an overview of occupational therapy’s role and responsibility in delivering OT services for populations experiencing acute cardiac conditions or procedures. In this course, information and resources are provided to support the development of knowledge and skills in delivering OT services to populations with cardiac related conditions or procedures commonly seen in acute care.
'Spinal Cord Management in Acute Care' The average lengths of acute and rehabilitation hospital stay for SCI patients is 11 days and 31 days respectively. This course is designed to support OTPs in providing evidence-based care to these individuals. This course provides information about medical management, client factors, assessment, environment, culture, interventions, and discharge planning and transition. The distinct role of OT on the interprofessional team is emphasized.
'Acute Trauma of the Upper Extremity' OTPs completing this course understand surgical procedures and tissue healing processes needed to make clinical decisions to allow patients to safely move through the acute phase of care. Informed care decisions can decrease harm to the healing tissue while avoiding secondary consequences of stiffness, learned disuse and poor movement patterns--all of which eventually impact an individual’s ability to utilize their upper limb in meaningful occupations.
