Earners of this micro credential have knowledge, skills and confidence needed to have conversations with individuals at risk for suicide. Earners understand the scope and impact of suicide, risk factors, and specific strategies for suicide prevention and intervention. They have also examined personal reactions to dealing with suicidal ideation & behaviors in order to provide thoughtful responses to at risk people. Earners also understand the role of OT and when to refer to a specialized teams

As a community and healthcare professional, you want to support your clients within all facets of their lives. Suicide remains a taboo topic within society where risks and signs can go unnoticed or not confronted--even by healthcare professionals. Many fear making matters worse or have a lack of training in how to respond. This basic course has been designed to assist occupational therapy practitioners in understanding more about the risks, and warning signs of suicide and how to respond.
Earners receiving this micro credential prior to April 2024 have attended a 6 hour, live, on-line course presented by psychologist Larry Berkowitz, and OTs Stephen Nawotniak and Quinn Tyminski. Those receiving after April 2024 will have attended a hybrid program.
