Advantage C, a service of Carroll Community College, is pleased to offer Leadership Development Training in partnership with the Carroll County State's Attorney's Office. Successful participants in this program complete six (6) training modules covering organization-specific leadership competencies through customized classroom training.

Earning Criteria

“Management Basics” provides participants with the core skills needed to ensure their success as a front-line supervisor or manager. Participants learn about the role of a manager and explores contemporary management theories. Topics include team building, relationship building, communications, delegation, and professionalism and ethics.

“Leadership Essentials” explores the critical leadership skills needed to build a team and influence positive results in the workplace. Topics include: distinguishing between leadership and management, exploring leadership styles, creating and communicating a shared vision, fostering innovative thinking, and inspiring and developing others. At the end of the class, leaders will develop action items to affect change in their unique work environments.

“Effective Performance Appraisals” provide participants with an understanding of the factors that influence employee performance. Topics include: documenting both effective and ineffective performance, creating SMART goals, and writing employee development plans that motivate. Rater errors, pitfalls to avoid, and tips for conducting a successful performance review are also discussed.

“Coaching Employees to Peak Performance” provides an overview of the manager’s role as coach, the four facets of performance coaching, how to diagnose performance issues, elements of a coaching conversation, and ways to reward and recognize employee progress and performance.

“Communication Skills for Managers” helps participants hone critical communication and influencing skills, and explores ways to craft an effective message for winning outcomes.

“Leading Change in the Workplace” empowers participants to deal with change in the workplace – both personally and as team leaders. Topics include understanding both positive and negative effects of change, learning personal response to change, helping to lead employees through change, seeing change as an opportunity, and communication during change.
