Earning Criteria
-
Sailing: Students will learn about harnessing the natural energy of the wind and develop the techniques to achieve this. We will cultivate a greater respect for the marine environment and respectful engagement with the water. We will also encounter the importance of teamwork, leadership and care which will inform our achievements in this activity and realise that these principles, these behaviours when transferred to other areas of our life will contribute to our future successes.
-
Urbnsurf. This activity will provide the opportunity to body surf, stand and take on the waves. Through this activity we will understand the importance of technique and persistence. This is very much a reflection on our journey through life. Should we struggle and fail, we need to notice what we are doing that needs improvement and persist. At times we need to laugh about our shortcomings and just move on. Encouraging voices support the development of confidence and perspective.
-
Urban High Ropes. This activity will call on all the strength and confidence we can muster as we face the obstacles and challenges of the rope course. Even though each participant will be wearing a safety harness , participants may still feel gripped by an element of fear due to the unsteady routes and heights. This activity will speak to us of the importance of trust, inner confidence, encouragement, and support. We will need to be aware of our own deeds and the needs of others.
-
Hiking. In this activity we will encounter both the beauty and challenge of God's creation. We will come across animals in their natural environment and grapple with the threats they face as people encroach on their habitat. We will also review how we can contribute to sustaining the natural beauty of our forests, wildlife and biodiversity. With the rigours of a tough all-day hike, teamwork and strategies are required to keep focus, high spirits and to push through fatigue.
-
Reflection Experience. Life takes both mental energy and physical energy to live. There will be times in our lives when we will need to rest, reflect on where we are in life, reconsider and (sometimes with help) move on. This experience is about supporting each other to make the link between being mentally strong to meet the physical challenges of life. A positive approach to this activity is required to support each other to enjoy the exertion of both cycling and hiking.
