Technical Specialist Profession Certification - Level 2

An IBM Certified Specialist leads teams to adapt new technology & processes to deliver high quality solutions that provide business value for the client. They ensure solutions meet client requirements & are technically viable in the client environment. They remove technical inhibitors that would prevent client satisfaction & acceptance of the solution implemented. At Expert Level, the IBM Certified Specialist is recognized as a Subject Matter Expert and teaches others in their work.

What it takes to earn this badge

  • This individual achieved certification by the profession Board  that he/she is able to lead and teach others to define the client's business problem; develop an appropriate solution which considers potential alternatives; achieve business impact for the client, and apply the lessons learned to future opportunities with other clients.
  • This individual led work with the client which delivered business value. They focused on key areas such as facilitating communications; understanding the business requirements; developing solutions to meet the client's business, technical and architectural requirements;  setting technical direction; leading problem analysis and resolution; planning engagements and mitigating risks involved; and negotiating results.
  • This individual has shown that they continue to develop their technical and professional skills as evidenced by a minimum of 120 hours of training and personal development completed in last 3-5 years.
  • This individual has enhanced and maintained  IBM's technical vitality through mentoring others (required) and other forms of give back including the development of IC/IP, enablement assets, publications, technical presentations and voluntary work on Certification Review Boards.
