Changing Diet-Related Behaviors Course (v.01)
Part of the Wellness Counseling Certificate, this course will provide a better understanding of the concept of change, and assist healthcare and human services professionals in the planning of practical strategies for clients to utilize in changing diet-related behaviors.The principles of motivational interviewing, an evidence-based interviewing style that facilitates patient-driven behavior change, will be covered.

Explain theories of behavior change and assist in teaching how these relate to lifestyle modification in clients.
Assist with helping clients understand self-monitoring of weight-related behaviors and relapse prevention principles.
Assist in the development of effective, individualized plans that facilitate health behavior change.
Understand and assist in implementation of the guiding principles of motivational interviewing for clients with weight management concerns.
Utilize motivational interviewing skills to complement (not replace) the communication skills already refined as a health care professional.
Earn 80% or more of total class points.
