Madison School Nurse Assistant Course

Preparing to assist the school nurse in running and maintaining a School Health Office, consistent with Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) guidelines. Required if not licensed as a LPN or RN who is considering applying for a job as a nursing assistant (NA) with MMSD. Helpful for LPNs and RNs considering working as NAs.

Skills

What it takes to earn this badge

  • Demonstrate the proper procedure to conduct a vision and hearing screen; administer an inhaler, EpiPen, Auvi-Q and Glucagon; and check vitals (heart rate, respiration rate, & temperature.)
  • Know the procedure for accepting and administering medications per Madison Metropolitan School District Health Guidelines.
  • Demonstrate how to collect history and do an exam for basic injuries and illnesses.
  • Demonstrate entry level knowledge of a range of common acute and chronic childhood illnesses, and injuries.
  • Know how to keep accurate records of contact with students and/or their families.
  • Obtain 50+ points throughout the duration of the class.
