Nonprofit Leadership: Budgeting and Financial Management

Highlights budgeting, financial management, control and transparency in nonprofit organizations.  Students will learn about mission-driven resource development and budgeting; components and procedures for various types of nonprofit budgeting, transparency and accountability as critical values in nonprofit organizations; fundamental principles and practice of nonprofit accounting and reporting; and principles and standards for effective fiscal monitoring, control and compliance.

  • Prepare a line-item budget.
  • Review state sunshine laws and discuss operations that adhere.
  • Review and discuss a full set of GAAP standard financial reports.
  • Distinguish the unique aspects of the nonprofit compliance system (volunteer board, stakeholder accountability, obligation to clients, etc.)
  • Develop a cash flow budget and a grant management policy as a final artifact from a case study.
  • Achieve an 80% or higher in total course assessments.
