The course objective is to provide students with an overview of the criminal justice system and its processes. It examines the courtroom work group, the trial process, challenges to the process, and the juvenile court system. Topics include introduction to the courts; crimes and defenses; history of the courts; prosecution and defense; judges; jurors and other participants; case attrition and bail; plea bargains; jury trials; court-ordered punishment; sentencing; and appeals and juvenile courts.
