The examination is designed to measure students' knowledge and skills of College Algebra. The knowledge and skills measured are consistent with those typically taught in intermediate level college courses and is consistent with this level of difficulty and complexity. The assessment reflects a balance between the topical and critical analytical skills essential to an understanding of College Algebra. The examination consists of 65 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 2 hours.

The skills measured include basic algebraic operations (3%); linear equations and inequalities in one variable (10%); polynomial and other equations (12%); functions and graphs (10%); operations on functions and analyzing graphs (15%); graphing polynomial and rational functions (7%); exponential and logarithmic functions (13%); exponential and logarithmic equations (12%); systems of equations (11%); and sequences and series (7%).
