The assessment reflects a balance between the topical/chronological information and critical analytic skills essential to an understanding of U.S. History.

The skills measured include pre-colonial and colonial America (12 - 18 percent); American Revolution and formation of the Republic (18 - 24 percent); the early American Republic (1790 - 1815) (18 - 24 percent); antebellum America (1816 - 1865) (18 - 24 percent); and the Civil War and reconstruction (20 - 26 percent).
