Professional Certification: Level 2 - Master Certified Solution Architect

Master Certified Solution Architects define solutions to business problems through the reasoned application of technologies, people and processes to successfully deliver systems and capabilities that support the needs of the business. These solutions often involve the application and integration of a diverse variety of products, technologies, services, systems and application architectures, and a broad portfolio of hardware and software components.

What it takes to earn this badge

  • Master Certified Architects achieve Certification by successfully completing three interviews by other Level 2 or Level 3 Certified Architects, based upon a comprehensive package of information describing project and other experiences.  The criteria used to decide on certification include all of the Skills mentioned above, as well as the requirements for repeated leadership of successful architecture engagements.
  • Master Certified Solution Architects must have experience that includes the understanding and appreciation of the solution lifecycle from strategy, design, and implementation through to completion, enabling the Architect to produce solution designs that are successful.
  • Master Certified Solution Architects must have acted in the role of Architect in at least three successful architectural engagements.  At least two of the three engagements must have been in connection with projects that met their acceptance criteria or, in the case of an architectural framework, was successfully adopted.
  • Master Certified Architects must have performed as a lead Architect in the development of one or more major projects or subsystems.
  • Master Certified Architects must have completed formal training in the discipline of architecture (i.e., methods/frameworks for designing and defining solution architectures), either through attendance at a taught course, or through self-study.
  • Master Certified Architects must continually develop their technical and professional knowledge and skills in technology trends, vertical industry sectors, and architecture trends and techniques.
  • Master Certified Architects must make contributions to the architecture profession; for example, architecture-related publications, research collaboration, development of training, or contributions to standards bodies or professional organizations.  They must also contribute to the development of professional architects through teaching, serving on certification boards, coaching, and/or mentoring.
  • Certification is open to all applicants.  There is no requirement for any previous certification.
